Experts in Crisis Management in High Profile Criminal Cases

Many of our clients are public figures, professionals or well established business people. At Berkeley Square Solicitors we have developed considerable expertise in crisis management in high profile cases as our case studies below illustrate.

With a background in dealing with figures in the public spotlight, we can also advise you on how to deal with any reputational damage that may follow a criminal investigation, and refer you to the right external advisers where necessary.

Notable Cases

Client A - Member of House of Lords

BSQ partner Daniel Godden represented client A, a Member of the House of Lords accused of dishonestly claiming parliamentary expenses in a case that led to front-page national media coverage.

The case was resolved in A’s favour after a dismissal application resting on the argument that the concept of ‘parliamentary work’ was subject to parliamentary privilege.

This then led to an intervention by Parliament re-iterating the same point which led to the Court concluding that they had no jurisdiction to try the Defendant. View our article about the case co-written by Daniel in Solicitors Journal

Client B - Ali Dizaei, Former Commander of the Metropolitan Police

BSQ partner Daniel Godden acted in relation to Dizaei’s second appeal against conviction which set a precedent in respect of case management issues involving non-defendant bad character applications.

See R v Ali Dizaei [2013] EWCA Crim 88 http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/Crim/2013/88.html for more information.

BSQ remains instructed in relation to application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Client C - High Net Worth Individual

BSQ’s client, a high net worth individual living in central London, was accused of exercising controlling behaviour in relation to a former girlfriend and arrested by police.

C was concerned to ensure the case did not became public. C dismissed his former lawyers and approached BSQ partner Roger Sahota who drafted lengthy written representations including new items of defence evidence that were provided to the police.

On review the CPS accepted our submissions that there was no realistic prospect of a conviction given flaws in the evidence. The investigation was discontinued pre-charge. C retained his reputation and good character.
