BSQ - Discontinuance for US Law Enforcement Official

In an unique case involving considerations of diplomatic community for US officials engaged in government work abroad, the CPS has decided to discontinue criminal proceedings against a BSQ client.

Concerns about the adequacy of evidence and the potential application of "special immunity" for a US law enforcement official travelling to the United Kingdom on official business were raised in representations made to the Crown. Roger Sahota, a partner at BSQ and one of London’s leading international criminal lawyers, as well as one of the editors of the Red Notice Monitor, was engaged to handle the case.

"Special immunity" is a recognized form of diplomatic immunity that can be applied on a case-by-case basis to foreign officials involved in temporary missions overseas.
