INTERPOL Law and Practice
Berkeley Square Solicitors is delighted to announce the publication and official launch of INTERPOL Law and Practice, a new specialist legal textbook co-authored by partner Roger Sahota. Published by Sweet & Maxwell (Thomson Reuters), the book was launched on 23 September 2026 at the Inner Temple in London at an event attended by more than 100 guests.
The evening brought together barristers, solicitors, judges, academics, journalists, human rights specialists and representatives of organisations concerned with international criminal justice and transnational repression. Among those attending were individuals who had themselves experienced the consequences of INTERPOL Red Notices.
The launch provided an opportunity to celebrate the publication of a book intended to address an important gap in the legal literature: the need for practical guidance on challenging INTERPOL Red Notices and navigating the organisation's complex legal procedures.
A Practical Guide to Challenging INTERPOL Red Notices
Although INTERPOL plays a central role in international law enforcement, its legal framework and internal procedures remain unfamiliar to many lawyers.
Individuals who become subject to Red Notices may face arrest when travelling, extradition proceedings, restrictions on their freedom of movement and serious reputational and financial consequences.
Yet the procedures for challenging these notices differ significantly from those governing conventional criminal or extradition proceedings.
Applications for deletion are considered by the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL's Files (CCF), an independent body operating under its own legal framework and procedural rules.
Although several publications have examined INTERPOL's history and international role, the authors considered that there was a need for a comprehensive, practitioner-focused guide explaining how Red Notices can be challenged in practice.
INTERPOL Law and Practice was conceived to meet that need.
The book examines INTERPOL's Constitution, its Rules on the Processing of Data, the issuing and circulation of Red Notices and Diffusions, and the procedures for seeking access to, correction or deletion of information held within INTERPOL's systems.
Particular attention is given to the practical preparation of CCF applications, the legal grounds for deletion and the evidence needed to support challenges involving political motivation, human rights concerns and breaches of INTERPOL's rules.
The book also addresses related matters including extradition, immigration, asylum and the wider consequences of international police alerts.
Drawing on Extensive Practical Experience
A distinguishing feature of the publication is that it has been written by practitioners with substantial experience representing individuals affected by INTERPOL's systems.
Roger Sahota heads Berkeley Square Solicitors' INTERPOL and international criminal defence practice.
In recent years, Roger has advised businesspeople and high-net-worth individuals in more than 25 INTERPOL cases, including matters involving allegations of fraud, corruption, money laundering and politically motivated criminal proceedings.
His practice has a particular focus on Red Notices requested by China and other jurisdictions where criminal investigations may raise complex political, commercial and human rights considerations.
Roger's wider international criminal law experience includes representing clients in proceedings before international criminal tribunals and the European Court of Human Rights.
Together with the barristers Ben Keith and Rhys Davies the authors have drawn on their practical experience to produce a work intended to assist lawyers in understanding not only INTERPOL's formal rules but how those rules operate in real cases.
Berkeley Square Solicitors would like to thank the Inner Temple for hosting the event, Sweet & Maxwell and Thomson Reuters for their support in publishing and promoting the book, and everyone who attended to celebrate its publication.
Special thanks are also due to the Thomson Reuters team, who hosted a bookstand during the evening and made copies available to guests.
