Roger Sahota Chairs Expert Panel Discussion on Interpol

Various topics were covered during the discussion including abuse of Interpol’s procedures, resulting in the dissemination of illegitimate Red Notices and alerts often issued for political reasons, targeting opponents of authoritarian regimes. Bill Browder, an outspoken critic of Mr Putin and author of the best-selling book “Red Notice”, shared his experiences of being targeted by Russia because of his campaign for justice following the murder of his lawyer Sergei Magnistsky. Browder called for “the non-dictatorship governments who make up a majority of the funding for Interpol to work together to clamp down on” this type of abuse.

Ted Bromund, an acknowledged Interpol expert at the Heritage Foundation, provided insights on the ongoing election process for the appointment of Interpol’s next Secretary General scheduled to be confirmed next year.

The two main candidates are nominees from Brazil and the United Kingdom. You can read more about their candidacy in a blog written by Roger for the Red Notice Monitor here.
