Assistant Solicitors and Other Qualified Legal Appointments

BSB Work Experience Placements and Paralegal Recruitment

The purpose of our placements is to give students an opportunity to gain an insight into the functioning of a leading criminal defence legal practice. Successful candidates will be involved in professional support work and experience all aspects of Criminal Litigation from the Magistrates Court to the Court of Appeal and have the opportunity to clerk jury trials and assist in defence case preparation, under supervision. This could include attending clients and counsel at court and in conference, taking witness statements and collecting evidence as well as routine office administration.

Work Experience Placements

BSB offer three work experience placements every summer. These opportunities are aimed at students currently studying for a Law degree or the professional stage of training to qualify as a solicitor or barrister (ie. the Legal Practice Course or Bar Finals).

We offer unpaid placements lasting from two to four weeks at our modern offices in Kings Cross. Hours will be 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Paralegal Appointments

BSB have vacancies for paralegal assistants. These opportunities are aimed at students who have completed their law degrees and are studying (or having completed) the professional stage of training to qualify as a solicitor or barrister (ie. the Legal Practice Course or Bar Finals). You will not yet obtained a training contract or pupilage (please note that this placement does not guarantee a training contract with BSB).

We offer placements lasting from six to twelve months. Up to three placements will be offered.

What kind of candidates are we looking for?

You will be a team player with the ability to work both with and without supervision. You will also have:

  • A real interest in Criminal Law and Human Rights
  • Strong research and drafting skills
  • Good academic background
  • Public speaking experience
  • IT Literacy
