The law can seem complicated. That is why it is important that you speak to a solicitor as soon as possible as we may be able to help you before charges are laid (see Fight your case before it goes to court). You should never discuss your case with anyone or sign a statement without a solicitor present as this could be used as evidence against you.

What are your rights

• Right to a Lawyer: You may be entitled to free representation under the Legal Aid Scheme. Contact us for more details.
• Presumption of Innocence: The burden of proof is on the prosecution to prove guilt – you do not have to prove anything.
• Right to Remain Silent: You have the right to remain silent and force the prosecution to find evidence to prove their case.
